Fastes de Cour & Ceremonies Royales
Just wanted to post some images from the exhibition Fastes de Cour & Ceremonies Royales, shown at Versailles and sponsored by Chanel. It includes ceremonial costumes and jewellery from the European monarchs 1650-1800. And to quote Karl Lagerfeldt : Nothing was too beautiful or too expensive...
BODY CON BODY CON BODY CON !
Stretch dresses became huge hits in the man made years of the 80's. Bodies became obsessively toned and put on show thanks to the wonder fabric Lycra. In fashion it was the decade of high flyers, Couture and in your face glamour. It was Azzedine Alaia, who initially studied sculpture and human form, who really pioneered the stretch dress. (interestingly the summer 2009 Alaia collection was launched with no show, no advertising and no free standing boutique, is this the way to go at times like this I wonder?)
I love the body con dress because of the 90's and specifically because of Versace! The models were curvy, the clothes exciting, tight AND loud (It was either the power dressing /labels look or the grunge/rock look that you favoured!!) It was the era of 'supermodels', eternity/obsession adverts and Neneh Cherry.
I'm glad to see its made a big comeback in the last few years (although maybe too many high street bandage dresses...I prefer the all in one tube dress) and again this summer for Alexander Wang . It seems a staple piece in 2009, but worn with a denim jacket, loose floral shirt, ankle socks, pumps or man shoes.........

In LOVE and WAR

Redwatch about the active searches of so called right wingers who pose a threat to their ideas and aims was well written by Lanare Blake. It really made me think.
The Couture Vulture, Couture Diary by Lucy Stehlik made me chuckle out loud with her (realistic) run down of backstage at Paris Fashion week!!!
Beauty Queens come clean inspired me with beautiful gothic glamour in a groovy tip on a seemingly transfer tattooed Jandra. I loved the last image with the Manish Arora sculpted dress. Styled by Morgan Luka and shot by Bojana Tatarska.
LOVE :........love, love, love ..the wow factor cover, showing no compromise and acceptance in such a beautiful way, Beth Dittos milky curves, shocking orange hair against mint green bought to my mind a McQueen finale in '01.'
The interview, alternative and personal, dead interesting to read is written by Paul Flynn with again, stunning photography by Mert Alas and Markus Piggot.......( The bit on the camp for girls, very funny!)
It would seem an impossible task to get such a diverse, crazy and commercial group of people into one publication, but Ms Grand has accomplished it...again!!

The Buying Trip!
The first day of spring has arrived and we're stepping out for that evening drink..yippeee
Arriving back from buying yesterday, here is the preview of our favourite pieces and in the shop this weekend:
For you girls: big check cotton blazers and pleat front shorts TS unique esq', Body con dresses think Alexander Wang! Denim dresses to salute Acne, floral dresses the nod to Basso and Brooke and printed 80's t shirts.....
For the boys: The preppy Ralph look with (Ralph Lauren!) chinos, bright check shirts, check shorts, stripy belts and tailored blazers. On the reverse it's the Our Legacy look with cotton zip jackets, striped pastel shirts, work jackets and chinos.

To chino... or not to chino...
Since the chino is playing a key part in our mens wear looks, it got us thinking about the importance of the casual slack in todays wardrobe!! A very welcome, fresh addition as we tire of jeans, and they look great rolled up and slim or lower and looser with converse.

Brook Brothers developed their chino in 1942 and they became commonly worn by high school kids, in the States at a time when jeans were still not permitted and worn with a button down shirt, penny loafers and probably the all important sweater around the shoulders!!! Famously championed by the man Mr Lauren probably since time began.
